About the School

The Decatur Township School for Excellence is the small high school option in Decatur Township. DTSE is state accredited and provides students the opportunity to receive their Core 40 and Academic Honors diplomas. Dual credit and vocational opportunities also exist. DTSE houses two small learning communities providing different pathways to graduation.

The Leadership and Community Connections (LCC) community provide students the opportunity to be independent leaders as well as team members through project based inquiry learning.  Discovering the connections between subjects learned and the real world allows LCC students to achieve beyond the classroom and leave DTSE college and career ready. LCC has evolved from the former Expeditionary Learning model, continuing the traditions, field work and active learning.  With small class sizes, students build relationships with the staff and their peers, allowing for deeper understanding and unique learning experiences.

The Blended Learning Model (BLM) community is designed for credit recovery and credit acceleration. Teachers facilitate students through an online curriculum, APEX, that is rigorous and challenging to prepare them for college and work. The standards-based digital curriculum in math, science, English, social studies, and electives is widely used for original credit, credit recovery, remediation, intervention, acceleration, and exam preparation. BLM students progress through courses at a pace designed to meet their requirements for graduation.

Students attending each of the communities have whole school experiences including Prom, Homecoming, Graduation, intramurals and other special events.  Each of these communities is perfect for the student who prefers a small classroom environment and a desire to belong to a school that recognizes each as individuals.
